Roy Moore Injured

I heard about Judge Moore's horse riding accident on the way home from work today.  The former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice broke several ribs while riding on Sunday.  That was the same day that former Governor Bob Riley was involved in a motorcycle accident in Alaska.  I believe they are expected to recover.  I mentioned both in a blog from March 3rd entitled, Bob Riley -Really

Judy and I, along with the kids, volunteered for Roy Moore when we lived near Gadsden.  We helped during his campaign for Etowah County Circuit Judge, in which he won.  If you don't keep up with Alabama politics, which most people don't, I need to bring you up to speed.  Roy Moore is known in the media as the "Ten commandments judge".  He fought against the ACLU through most of his term as judge for refusing to remove a ten commandments display from the courtroom wall.  He refused to stop acknowledging God and the whole episode brought the community and state together by helping elect judge Moore to be the Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice!  He later installed a large granite display of the ten commandments in the rotunda of the Alabama Judicial Building.  The ACLU and the media went nuts, and judge Moore was eventually removed as Chief Justice.

It was a dark day in Alabama politics!  Justice was not served and a great public servant was punished unnecessarily!  I almost liken it to the removal of Guy Hunt from the Governor's office several years before.  Good Christian men find it difficult to work in government.  That is confirmed through several Bible verses.  2 Timothy 3:12 says, "Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted" and Jesus said in Matthew 5:10, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."  The Book of Daniel (chapter 6) shows how unrighteous men will try to trap and remove from office, those who follow God's law.

That doesn't mean all Christians in government need to resign.  You just need to be stronger and not cave on important matters.  I'm currently reading Roy Moore's book, "So Help Me God", by Broadman & Holman Publishers.  Amazon has it if you are interested.  It is a good read, especially since I recognize many of the participants mentioned.  It is also chock full of history which conveniently isn't taught today!  Reading it, I am shocked by the actions of so called Christians during the ordeal that removed the judge from office.  It should never be wrong to acknowledge God!  I like Acts 4:19 from the English Standard Version here, "But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge."   Judge Moore was right on all counts and should have been allowed to continue in his office!

I must admit that I was unaware that Judge Moore was involved in the 2012 Presidential race.  I would like to see him there, but the odds are practically insurmountable.  With Sub Bell Cobb resigning as Chief Justice, it would be interesting to see Judge Moore back there!  I don't know if Governor Bentley could make that appointment but it would be awesome!
